This app is for those who want to learn to read Chinese characters. Rather than getting you frustrated by the thousands of characters out there, this app starts off with the most common characters - one at a time - and then works its way to less common ones. The ones you know wont be shown again, while the ones you have trouble with will be shown to you again later. This way you can focus your learning on characters that you find difficult, while easily skipping through others that you find easy.

Features include:

- 2700 characters in simplified and traditional form
- Pinyin script and English definition for each character
- Characters grouped from most frequent to least
- Spaced repetition algorithm to help with memorization

Pros and cons of Chinese Flashcards app for iPhone and iPad

Chinese Flashcards app good for

Best Chinese Flashcards app that I have tried so far. Controls are simple and it works like it should. There arent many options however, and there doesnt seem to be a way to make custom sets of flashcards. I do like the fact that it starts on the most common characters and progresses from there. Overall, very good at what it does.
I researched all the flashcard programs for learning Chinese before deciding on this one, and Im happy with my purchase. The characters are clear, the definitions appear to be accurate and the program looks nice and its easy to use. It isnt perfect yet, I think there are a few usability issues that could be addressed, but the core of the program is great and I look forward to working my way through all of the characters provided. One thing to note though, this program requires that you know at least a little Chinese. I think its geared towards at least an intermediate speaker, who has a base understanding of characters. Buying this program wont help you speak Chinese, itll help you read it.
Im an upper- intermediate Chinese student and this app is exactly what I was looking for to help my reading ability. Its a very basic flashcard app, but thats all its supposed to be, so its great. Its a great way to build your Chinese. Well worth the price, 5 stars! Wish list for Developer: -I wish I could see both simple and traditional characters at the same time, or easily switch back and forth. -I wish The characters were in a different font, or had an option to change the font. -the actual look and color scheme of the app is a little cheesy, use less bright colors or something. -I was really hesitant to buy this app at first, if you had a limited "lite" version, youd probably have more sales.
it does a great job at what it advertises for: Chinese flash cards. For the price of a frappuccino, you got a very well done Chinese training program
The app itself is useful and nice. Im a beginning learner and it helps to reinforce word memory. There are a few things I wish were added (some mentioned by a previous reviewer): - Minor request: Color scheme control. Toxic-green background, blindingly white menu button, and bright yellow cards. Ugh! - Major request: Ability to review/reinstate skipped and learned words. Currently, there is no way to review learned/skipped, and the only way to return them to the pile is to reset the entire set of flashcards. With those couple changes, this already useful app would be perfect!
Must buy for all Mandarin language learners! Howevet, needs to add an audio pronunciation of the word for five stars!

Some bad moments

For main missing fonctions: - Should show some words made with the caractere when giving the answer. - Should a personal bank of usefull words or/and characters. - Should have sounds (for the prononciation). - We cannot choose the level (wich is very unconvenient when restart).
I think this is a good app. Some good points about it are its friendly interface as well as its ability to use both traditional and simplified characters. As far as appearance goes, this is a 5 star app. However, my one MAJOR problem is that you are unable to adjust the number of characers that you are tested on. The app. has test consisting of 25 characters. If you are just starting to learn Chinese characters (like myself) it is very difficult to retain the amount of information you learn. Its a case of biting off more than the average person can chew and one might feel like they are drowning in too much new material. During my school days, I used to make a game of just testing myself on 5 vocabulary words/terms(regardless of subject). From there, I would memorize as many 5 card sets as possible before streching it to 10. Personally, I found this to be an effective way for myself to learn new words/terms. It is my opinion that an option that would allow one to adjust the number of flashcards tested in intervals of 5, would drastically increase the information retained. If such an adjustment is made, I will glady give the app. a 5 star review.
You can see the. CHaracter and reveal its meaning and pinyin. But but not the other way around. It should be a setting option. You wont learn to write this way. Just read. Include this option(please!) and you got a 5star app
